Enrollment and Instructional Activity Reporting Handbook INTERIM VERSION PENDING REVISED UC RULES ON REPORTING INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITY CHECKLIST FOR RECORDING INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITY, ENROLLMENTS, AND APPOINTMENTS |
|
Enrollment Enroll students in all of their courses by the 15th day of classes.Enable students to pay their fees and out-of-state tuition by the 15th day of classes. Help undergraduates get all of the necessary paperwork to enroll in research and other special opportunity courses completed by the fifteenth day of classes. Review graduate student study lists to ensure that they are enrolling in research team meetings, teaching practica, colloquia, etc., as appropriate. Class Scheduling Schedule all unit-bearing teaching activities by the 15th day of classes.Do not group multiple offerings of courses that actually meet separately into one section. This applies to teaching practica:record each group of instructor(s) and teaching assistants for an undergraduate course as a separate teaching practica. nter an instructor UID for every course.Make every effort to do so by the 15th day of instruction. However, instructor UIDs can be added to the course record in the student record system after the census date by contacting Doug Thomson in the Registrar's scheduling office. Ensure that the instructor UID recorded for the course is valid and belongs to the actual instructor.Work with other offices as necessary to assign department instructors to subjects for which scheduling responsibility lies outside the department (e.g. honors tutorials). Do not use the UID of the chair or academic advisor unless that individual is actually the instructor as well. |
Assign function 1 or function 2 to only those instructors who should share teaching credit for instructional activity reporting purposes. An instructor who supervises but does not teach must have a function 3 code. A new code for instructors who assist in class but should not be assigned teaching credit for instructional activity purposes will be available soon.
Enter a time and location for every course, if appropriate.Include regular course meetings that occur in department seminar rooms, faculty offices, etc.(but not office hours). If the participants meet for a set or large number of hours but on an irregular basis (as frequently occurs in the arts), use the new "VAR" code instead of "TBA". Schedules can be added or adjusted up to the end of the spring quarter. If one component course of a combined class offering meets at a separate time as well as jointly with the other component course(s), enter the extra meeting time and place. Instructor Appointments Ensure that instructor appointments for the term are entered in time to appear on the local payroll of record:November for fall quarter and semester, February for winter quarter, and April for spring quarter and semester.Change the DOS code to reflect sabbatical status for faculty members, effective for the term(s) for which they use sabbatical credit.Unless the DOS code is changed, the Office of the President will count the individual as an "active" FTE. If a faculty member "buys out" part of the appointment, change the function code from '40' to '44'. Notify the Office of Analysis and Information Management of any unusual appointment situations that could affect the accuracy of instructional activity data for your department. |
