Academic Planning
AIM supports campus planning by providing standard and customized analyses to individuals and groups charged with making policy decisions and reviewing academic programs. The staff commonly work with end users to identify issues, determine the questions that need to be answered, and select appropriate data sources to be used in the analysis. AIM maintains its own historical database of enrollment and instructional activity, and can obtain data from other offices of record on campus. In addition, it can generate and enhance analyses using the results of student surveys that it conducts periodically. Recent examples of analytical support for campus clients include development of key academic indicators, comparison of planned and actual growth in each school and division, and utilization of large classrooms.
AIM publishes several standard reports on the web that academic units can use for internal planning and evaluation purposes. These include:
Master Planning (MP) Tables
MP Tables summarize instructional resources and activity, displaying a seven-year history of (1) each department's faculty and teaching apprentice resources and (2) the number of student credit hours generated in the department's courses. The MP tables include data for interdisciplinary programs and school totals. Reports are limited to General Campus units.
Class Reports
The Class Report supports curriculum planning, providing summary information about each department's class offerings by course level, student level, and course size.
Academic Program Review Summaries (APRS)
The APRS was designed to support official undergraduate program reviews, but can be used between external visits to monitor quality and performance. The report displays seven years of data on enrollments, measures of student quality and performance, degree completion, etc.
Departmental Enrollment Profiles
The Enrollment Profile displays a three-year history of enrollment in the department's programs. Users can see recent trends in student demographics and enrollment by level.
Note: The Enrollment Profile reports show the number of students majoring in a department's programs, while the MP Tables and Class Reports show the workload generated by all students enrolled in the department's courses, regardless of major.
