HEADCOUNT MAJORS—Three Quarter Average
Lower Division
Includes Freshmen and Sophomore (0 to 89.9 completed units)
Upper Divisions
Includes Junior and Senior (90.0 to 135.0 or more completed units)
Grad 1
Includes Master's (degrees objective is academic or professional masters, certification credential, non-doctoral first professional degree of no degree objective) and Doctoral 1 (academic or professional doctorate degree objective but not advanced to candidacy or professional health science degree)
Grad 2
Includes Doctoral 2 (academic or professional doctorate degree objective and advanced to candidacy for 9 registered terms or less) and Doctoral 2A (academic or professional doctorate degree objective and advanced to candidacy for more than 9 registered terms)
STUDENT CREDIT HOURS (SCH)—3-Quarter Average
Course Level SCH
The sum of units taken by all enrolled students in Lower Division, Upper Division and Graduate Courses. Beginning in 2002-03, SCH excludes graduate visitor and international exchange student generated SCH is excluded. Course level SCH is reported in the following categories:
Major Load
Course Level SCH (units) taken by departmental majors (Beginning in 2002-03 Major includes double and triple majors in the department.)
Service Load
Course Level SCH (units) taken by students not majoring in the department (Beginning in 2002-03 Service excludes double and triple majors in the department.)
TOTAL - the total of MAJOR and SERVICE load
Student Level SCH
The sum of units taken by all enrolled students. In this section, SCH are reported by level of student. Thus, Lower Division, Upper Division,
Graduate 1 and Graduate 2 units are those taken by students at that level regardless of the level of the course. These data are used in deriving unweighted FTE students as
presented in the "Workload Measures and Ratios" report. Beginning in 2002-03, SCH excludes graduate visitors and international exchange SCH.
INSTRUCTIONAL FTE
Budgeted Faculty FTE
Represents the allocation to each school/college of General Fund Control Faculty FTE. This includes institutional and loan FTE. Starting in 2001-02, FTE in 19935 funds for enrollment growth are included.
Actual Faculty FTE
The regular year average payroll FTE for designated instructor title codes, excluding individuals on sabbatical and other approved leave. This is
calculated as the average of October, February, and April payroll FTE (regular pay in Function 40 from all fund sources, excluding self-support academic programs) .
Instructor titles included are regular rank (ladder) faculty, certain other faculty (visitors and adjuncts), and Unit 18 instructors.
Budgeted TA FTE
The control FTE allocated to the campus by the Office of the President.
Actual TA FTE
Represents utilized TA FTE. In addition to being supported by budget, this can also be generated by sub 0 faculty salary savings.

Candidate in Philosophy
In several departments, as approved by the Graduate Council, the intermediate degree of Candidate in Philosophy (C. Phil.) is awarded to qualified students, on advancement to candidacy for the Ph.D. degree. The C.Phil. is not a terminal degree but gives formal recognition to definite state of progress toward the doctorate.
Academic requirements are the same as for advancement to candidacy for the Ph.D.
